There are risks attendant in searching for patents that you should be aware of as well. When you review a patent, even though you *think* you are doing something quite different, if you end up being sued for infringement of that patent the patent owner may be able to use the fact that you reviewed it against you. The patent owner can argue that you were aware of the patent, yet proceeded anyway to use the patented invention, and thus you are a "willful infringer" and subject to possible treble damages. The patent owner may also argue that you "copied" their invention -- after all, you looked at their idea. There are counters to these arguments, of course, but you should at least be aware of the risks. Large, well-funded companies might opt for a "right to use" patent opinion, that reviews the existing patent landscape before proceeding. These can be expensive, however. Small companies sometimes choose to proceed blindly with their development, hoping for the best if/when they become successful. Then there are many options between these two courses of action depending on your circumstances, the technology space, and many other factors. Bottom line, there is no "one size fits all" approach and it is a complex enough algorithm that you should proceed with great caution. Of course, this is purely informational and not legal advice.Suggest Edits

Clojure is a dynamic programming language that targets the Java Virtual Machine (and the CLR ). It is designed to be a general-purpose language, combining the approachability and interactive development of a scripting language with an efficient and robust infrastructure for multithreaded programming. Clojure is a compiled language - it compiles directly to JVM bytecode, yet remains completely dynamic. Every feature supported by Clojure is supported at runtime. Clojure provides easy access to the Java frameworks, with optional type hints and type inference, to ensure that calls to Java can avoid reflection.
Clojure is a dialect of Lisp, and shares with Lisp the code-as-data philosophy and a powerful macro system. Clojure is predominantly a functional programming language, and features a rich set of immutable, persistent data structures. When mutable state is needed, Clojure offers a software transactional memory system and reactive Agent system that ensure clean, correct, multithreaded designs.
